Origin of Good
In the matters origin there are but two options: Jesus asked a question regarding “The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men? Matt. 21:25. So with all matters moral.
If from earth: Man — Manifested by their works: “From their fruits ye shall know them; do men gather from thorns grapes? or from thistles figs? so every good tree doth yield good fruits, but the bad tree doth yield evil fruits” (Matt. 7:16-17).
The History of man, regarding good or evil? Gen. 6:11-12 – “And the earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God saw the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.” Obviously, not from the inhabitants of the early creation.
If from heaven: God — Gen. 1:31 – “And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.” Thus, Psa. 73:1 – “Surely God is good …”
In that God is good, and being “a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that in them is: who in the generations gone by suffered all the nations to walk in their own ways. And yet he left not himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you from heaven rains and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness” (Acts 14:15-17).
Thus, we learn that “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures” (Jam. 1:17-18). ret
