Nothing Has Changed III

The condition of society has not escaped the notice of anyone that is paying the least bit of attention. Thefts, home invasions, and murder of even the most vulnerable of society: which literally fits the description given by the Psalmist, saying, “Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto demons, And shed innocent blood, Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, Whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with blood” (Psa. 106:37-38). Specific time and place: Israel was guilty of such atrocities. On a historical basis, many societies have been guilty of the same.

Israel’s actions were specific when they literally shed the blood of their most innocent: concerning one of their kings, “Moreover Manasseh shed innocent blood very much, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; besides his sin wherewith he made Judah to sin, in doing that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah” (2 Kgs. 21:16), and regarding this king, the scriptures say, “Surely at the commandment of Jehovah came this upon Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did, and also for the innocent blood that he shed; for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood: and Jehovah would not pardon” (2 Kgs. 24:3-4). It was this kind of iniquity to which Jehovah said, “So shalt thou put away the innocent blood from the midst of thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah” (Deut. 21:9).

However, parents and profiteers do the same when they offer up their children on the altars of immediate activities and pleasures that permeate society: “all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vainglory of life, (which) is not of the Father, but is of the world” (1 Jn. 2:16). Profiteers know the draw sin has upon the innocent and parents lack the backbone and/or teaching to restrain their children from the commission thereof. Therefore, “a child left to himself causeth shame to his mother” (Prov. 29:15) and “He whose spirit is without restraint Is like a city that is broken down and without walls” (Prov. 25:28). It has been stated that in today’s world, “there are more ways to sin than has ever been” (Anonymous). Seeing that Solomon said, “That which hath been is that which shall be; and that which hath been done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun” (Eccl. 1:9), the truth of the statement may be debatable, but it is evident that there are ways that lead into sin uncommon to history.

When children have no respect for their elders, and/or parents, what makes society think they will have respect for any other type of authority? When children have no regard for human life, what makes society think they will advance to a life that seeks justice?

Not all parents, and/or children advance to the stage of literally shedding the blood of the innocent. However, but should either pause at the question, “if your dog, and a stranger, were drowning in the river, which one would you save first?”, then there is a problem.

For the fathers: “provoke not your children to wrath: but nurture them in the chastening and admonition of the Lord” (Eph. 6:4). For the children: “despise not the chastening of Jehovah; Neither be weary of his reproof: For whom Jehovah loveth he reproveth; Even as a father the son in whom he delighteth” (Prov. 3:11-12). The cure of society’s ills began with “thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. The second is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these” (Mk. 12:30-31).
