Would You Go?

Would You Go?

“When therefore it was evening, on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. And when he had said this, he showed unto them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they saw the Lord. Jesus therefore said unto them again, Peace be unto you: as the Father hath sent me, even so send I you” (John 20:19-21).

“The things which ye both learned and received and heard and saw in me, these things do: and the God of peace shall be with you” (Philippians 4:9).

“But abide thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them” (2 Timothy 3:14).

“Be diligent in these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy progress may be manifest unto all. Take heed to thyself, and to thy teaching. Continue in these things; for in doing this thou shalt save both thyself and them that hear thee” (1 Timothy 4:15-16).

“And the things which thou hast heard from me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2).

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; And he that is wise winneth souls” (Proverbs 11:30).

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is revealed a righteousness of God from faith unto faith: as it is written, But the righteous shall live by faith” (Romans 1:16-17).

The Bible student readily understands “in none other is there salvation: for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved” (Acts 4:12), and thereby understands the need of the proclamation of the gospel: Jesus sent the apostles, the apostles sent evangelists, and evangelists committed what they had been taught to “faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” This is the Lord’s method of taking the gospel to a lost and dying world.

Though this principle is Biblically documented, and easily understood, there are few preparing themselves to commit their lives to the proclamation of the gospel. How many Christians do you know that are actively encouraging their sons to commit their lives to the preaching of the gospel? How many Christians do you know that are actively involved, everyday, in preparing themselves to participate in the government of God? God has provided his children with a system to further His desires, and God’s desired method is not simply a suggestion.

Being instructed in this truth the question is now yours: Would you go?

Would you go, knowing you will be despised (1 Timothy 4:12)?

Would you go, knowing you will be evil spoken of (3 John 10)?

Would you go, knowing that fear will sometimes come with your labors (Acts 18:9)?

Would you go, knowing you will subject yourselves, and your family to scrutiny (1 Corinthians 9:3)?

Would you go?

Reflect upon the cost of being “ready unto every good work” (Titus 3:1), as exhibited in the life of Ezra, for Ezra “was a ready scribe in the law of Moses,” because “Ezra had set his heart to seek the law of Jehovah, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and ordinances” (Ezra 7:6, 10). ret
