Love Jehovah thy God
In Deuteronomy 6:4-7, The Lord said to Israel, “Hear, O Israel: Jehovah our God is one Jehovah: and thou shalt love Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thy heart; and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walketh by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou riseth up.”
Jesus echoed these words in Mark 12:28-30, when asked, “What commandment is the first of all?” Jesus answered, “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God, the Lord is one: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength’.”
As we start this New Year, let us reflect upon the benefits of fulfilling these basic admonitions: love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, mind and strength, and teach His word diligently and talk of them when you rise in the morning, walk in the way, and lie down at night.
